What you should never try, when planning your family portraits session.

Now that we’ve established the importance of a family portrait in our last post(https://ebubechistudios.wordpress.com/2022/02/26/check-out-these-five-reasons-to-connect-with-your-family/)

Let’s take you through the DOs and DON’Ts of a family portraits because as we evolve, trends evolve and we are passionate about helping our clients evolve..

THE DOs:

  1. Your family has to have some form of coordination: Choose colors that have the same tone, nothing too flamboyant, a warm color would do just fine. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pop some colors, you don’t want your portrait to be dull, pop colors but maintain something that doesn’t scream; Circus. Remember that taking family portraits is fun, try to have fun with the colors too.
  2. Make sure the family wears comfortable and neat clothes : The image your family portrays is important as you could use your family portrait on your Christmas cards, even when the portrait just sits at home, giving your visitors a view of what your family is like, you wouldn’t want them having an uptight idea about your family. You should put on comfortable clothings that you can have fun in, these clothes should be well ironed and neat as well. Remember how people say; cleanliness is next to godliness? You want to show people your family is prim and proper.
  3. Remember how you want the portrait to look: it is important that you gave an idea of what kind of portrait you want. Don’t be shy to tell your photographer that you want to try certain backgrounds, it’s your family portrait! You get to choose what you want and how you want it. It doesn’t mean you don’t take professional advice, it simply means your ideas are valid. What kind of background do you want? What imagery are you trying to portray? Talk to the professional about it .

Now to THE DONTs:

  1. Don’t go all matchy, people: it will not be cool to have everyone dressed in exactly the same outfit. Remember you want the same color tone not the same outfit. It’s a new age and time, don’t go back to the 1940s with the matchy matchy outfit.
  2. Don’t outdo yourself: it’s a family portrait not a game in the olympics, try not to outdo yourself. Whatever you have in your closets will do, seek professional advice if you’re not clear on what to wear. Do not stress yourself out, remember the goal of the taking the portrait is to have fun. When you outdo yourself, you barely have any fun.
  3. Do not focus on patterns: Patterned clothings are the least important things with taking a family portrait. You want to look good and might be tempted to spend too much time focusing on patterned clothings . That is absolutely wrong. If you think you have no choice, you might have to make sure it is subtle then.

It is okay to make mistakes, to have doubts and to be jittery about these things. This is why we at Ebubechi studios are here, to help you with making the best clothing decisions for your family portrait. We are not just about the pictures, we are about making your session, one to remember.
